ABOUT US
We are all used to seeing road sweepers or dustmen etc on our streets clearing the rubbish but how often, if ever do you see the shoreline, beach or harbour being cleaned? We all like to relax by or play - in, on or near the sea at sometime. Walk along any beach and you will see some sort of rubbish. We tend to accept it as just being there until we become ill or hurt ourselves on it. That should not be the case. Clean Coast Services is dedicated to removing all rubbish from our shoreline, creating a much more clean and pleasant environment for us all to enjoy.
I first got the idea while working for a large boat manufacturing company. While sitting outside one dinner time (We had picnic benches right next to the sea) I noticed some of ‘our’ rubbish had been blown into the water. This was accidental but it happens from time to time. The unit where I worked was at the end of a tidal inlet and I noticed that the same rubbish was there for days. Looking across the inlet was a small marina and a large amount of rubbish, weed and driftwood had accumulated each time the tide had come in.
I could not understand why no one cleared this eye sore away, this is a beautiful part of the country (Plymouth) and people must be paying quite a lot to keep their boats there. Like most things, the more you look the more you see and a trip around Plymouth Hoe taught me that their was no company who specialised in removing all this floating rubbish in the water and any washed up on the shore. I’m sure we are all aware of volunteers cleaning some beaches from time to time and that is great but to keep these places clean it needs doing on a regular basis.
A nice flat beach is relatively easy to clean but what about the hard to reach places like the bottom of cliffs, high dock walls, beaches or coves that can only be reached by boat and rubbish that is just floating in the tide looking for somewhere to end up? Out of sight is not out of mind, you might not be able to see and so not be concerned about some rubbish in a cove a hundred yards round the corner but I can assure you the tide will pick it up and move it to your area sooner or later in a never ending cycle. We intend to break that cycle and help make our water safer and cleaner for us all to enjoy.
Ever since I started this company I have been encouraged by the response I have received! When cleaning a beach, members of the public often come up to us and ask about our work, how often do you clean this beach, and what a nice change it is to see someone doing such a worthwhile job. Our presence has a positive impact on the general public and businesses alike.
As we are based in Plymouth, naturally this is the first area we cleaned but I soon found that the whole idea was having such a positive impact that we soon found ourselves expanding. At present we are working on sites in Devon and Cornwall and soon expect to cover even more counties. We are often looking for new members to join our ever expanding team, so if you are interested please keep looking on this site for new vacancies or drop us a line with your details and we will call you when an opening arises.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our site, any questions please use the contact us page.
Regards,

Rikkie Carette - Owner and founder of Clean Coast Services
